A 40A plasma cutter that starts without high-frequency — contact-start simplicity for clean, repeatable cuts on mild steel, running on 110V or 220V household power.

The CUT-50 pairs a PT31 torch with adjustable cutting current and post-flow air cooling. Contact start keeps the torch simple and the shop quiet — no high-frequency unit sparking across your electrical system. Set your amperage, drag the tip, cut.

Plasma Cutting. Start to Finish.

One torch, one air line, one dial. The CUT-50 keeps cutting simple so your first clean cut is not your last.

Built for

  • Garage & DIY metalwork — gate brackets, trailer patches, project car panels.
  • Farm & ranch repair — stuck bolts, worn implement parts, broken gate hardware.
  • First plasma buyers — contact start and one dial keep the learning curve short.
  • Budget-conscious shops — PT31 wear parts are among the cheapest in the industry.

Not built for

  • Non-touch starts on rusty or painted plate — that is pilot arc territory. See the CUT-50 Pro.
  • Clean 1/2-inch cuts in a single pass — step up to the 50A CUT-50 Pro.
  • Welding — this machine only cuts. Need MIG/TIG/stick too? The SD-4050 Pro does all four.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the CUT-50 need an air compressor?

Yes — plasma cutting needs compressed air. Any standard shop compressor works, and the air regulator and gas hose are included in the box, so setup is: compressor → regulator → machine → cut.

What does "contact start, no high frequency" mean?

The arc starts when the PT31 tip touches the metal — there is no high-frequency starter unit. That keeps the torch simpler, reduces electrical interference with nearby electronics, and gives you one less component to fail.

How is it different from the CUT-50 Pro?

The CUT-50 Pro adds a 50A output, a non-touch pilot arc (the arc starts before the torch touches rusty or painted metal), and a digital pressure display in PSI and MPa. If you cut thick or surface-rusted plate regularly, step up to the Pro; for straightforward DIY cutting, the CUT-50 is the value pick.

Which consumables does it use?

PT31. SSimder stocks a 67/71-piece PT31 consumables kit (electrodes, tips, shields) so every wear part your torch needs is one click away — no hunting for off-brand tips.

What can it cut?

Mild steel and common workshop metals in DIY thickness ranges. For consistently clean 1/2-inch cuts and severance work up to 3/4 inch, the 50A CUT-50 Pro is the right tool.

What warranty does it carry?

Every SSimder welder and cutter carries a 3-year warranty — the same policy across the line, spelled out on our warranty policy page.
